Google Pay will now be compatible with a number of different public transit cards, allowing Google Pay users to complete transit purchases using their phones. The new compatibility with public transit cards is the result of a collaboration between Google and Cubic Transportation Systems. Cubic states that the collaboration efforts were intended to reduce operational costs and increase efficiency, for public transportation.
Cubic has not released a full list of which locations can use the new feature. However, the company has previously worked with transportation systems in New York, Vancouver, Los Angeles, London and more.
The Google Pay director of product management, Ambarish Kenghe, spoke in the collaboration, "Ultimately, our goal is to make riding public transit seamless and convenient for as many people as we can."
