Mexican architect Tatiana Bilbao designed a low-cost home that aims to assist the country in its shortage of public housing units. Each house will cost about $7,000 to build, which is an incredibly small amount of money for housing. The cozy homes will be built by average citizens, as opposed to hiring a construction company, which furthers the cost reduction.
The design caters to existing Mexican lifestyles. When a family begins to grow, the homeowner often takes it upon themselves to accommodatingly expand the house. With the simplified design by Bilbao, these extension projects will be much easier to reach.
There are a few different designs that can be used to create sustainable public housing units. These designs range from 667 square feet to about 1,300 square feet. The houses are able to be constructed from almost any material including bricks, shipping palettes and paneling.
