To demonstrate how fast and reliable its printers can be, Canon challenged a 19-person orchestra to perform a special arrangement of Beethoven’s 7th Symphony, reading from sheet music printed on stage in real-time using printers placed in front of each musician. The performance hadn’t been rehearsed -- it was the first time the musicians and the maestro Eric V. Hachikian had ever performed together in this ensemble.
The printers had to print a combined 70 pages over the arrangement, in complete synchronization in front of a live audience at the iconic United Palace in New York City. This required absolute precision timing and utter dependability; a single mistake could throw the entire piece off course.
Behind the idea is the agency 360i New York.
