Pret a Manger Employees are Testing Out Body Cams for Personal Safety

Pret a Manger, the well-known sandwich and coffee chain, has begun a trial of body-worn cameras at select locations across London. This initiative aims to address the growing concerns about safety and security within the retail environment. To ensure transparency and inform customers, signage has been installed in the participating stores, notifying patrons of the trial and the presence of the cameras.

This move places Pret a Manger alongside other major UK retailers, such as Tesco and The Co-op, who have also implemented body-worn cameras in response to increasing incidents of violence and abuse faced by shop workers. Pret a Manger is taking proactive steps to enhance the protection of its staff and improve overall safety in its stores.

"Teenagers taking on their first job, carers looking for part-time work, parents working around childcare. And while the violence can be over in a moment, the victims carry these experiences with them for a lifetime. And we all know the impact does not stop there – it affects their colleagues, friends, and the family our colleagues go home to. This is a crisis that demands action now," said Helen Dickinson, Chief Executive at the BRC.
