Groundbreaking Off-Grid Ports

The Port of Los Angeles Will Rely Solely On Renewable Energy Sources

The Port of Los Angeles is preparing to blaze a completely new trail by becoming the very first marine terminal in human history to be fully capable of generating all of its energy needs using only renewable sources, and while delivering zero emissions.

This high-tech will be equipped with a 1.03-megawatt solar micro-grid that will replace diesel energy sources. The port, which sits on a stretch of 69 km of waterfront, is even equipped with a 2.6-megawatt-hour battery storage system that will enable it to continue operating off the grid in the event of an earthquake or other emergency.

The Port of Los Angeles is expected to be up and running by the end of the year, and is all set to begin a new movement towards zero-emissions, renewable operation in the world of shipping.
