As the shift toward a more eco-conscious mindset continues to impact industries, brands which work largely in plastics are responding my meeting consumers in the middle -- Poland Spring, for example, is working on developing a water bottle made from wood harvested in local Maine forests.
This project is arising as a result of a collaboration between the company and the University of Maine, who are responsible for developing alternatives to non-renewable products. Now, the pair are looking into producing 'plastic' made from petroleum-based packaging alternative, which is sourced sustainably and harvested from Maine's trees.
These state-grown effort will have implications across the bottling industry, as Maine is home to three of the brand's bottling plants.
