Bullet-Proof Plastic Bottle Homes

Houses Being Built in Nigeria Use 7,800 Plastic Bottles Each

Plastic bottle homes may be the new thing when it comes to green architecture -- in any case, they are creating quite a stir in the village of Yelwa, Nigeria.

Here, 25 plastic bottle homes are being built and will soon be made available for rent. Each house is crafted using around 7,800 plastic bottles, with each house comprising a bedroom, living room, bathroom and kitchen. Using plastic bottles rather than traditional bricks is a more durable, not to mention more cost-effective, method of building, says BBC News. It is estimated that one of these plastic bottle houses will cost only a third of the cost of a house made using bricks and concrete. What's more, the eco-friendly homes are also bullet-proof, due to the compacted sand that fills each bottle used in the building's construction.
