Seasonally Polarized Home Designs

'Plaini and Karahalios' Has Designed a Bifurcated Vacation Home

When tasked with renovating and redesigning an early 20th century home in the Peloponnese, Greek architecture firm 'Plaini and Karahalios' were split. Knowing that the home would be for vacationing and that the Peloponnese islands are beautiful year round, the firm had trouble deciding between a winter or summer motif. So, as a solution, it went with both.

Plaini and Karahalios' vacation house has two floors, upper and lower, and these are each completely devoted to their respective season. The upper floor is for summer: it's decorated with verdant green walls, light yellow wooden accents, and warm carpeting. On the lower floor, the winter area is completely whitewashed. Further, the winter floor keeps the rough, exposed stonework visible, adding to the snowy decor.
