A great deal of fun can be had in the design of a simple seat. The Pira Stool presents its sitter with a stable base and a supported perch, achieved in a manner that's much more engaging that it could have been.
Danilo Calvache chose to exaggerate the shape and the dimensions of the wooden seat by giving it a squared top and a depth that's more than five times thicker than you'd usually see. This bulky bench has been crafted to narrow noticeably from top to bottom, allowing it to be easily wedged into its frame.
The metal structure of the Pira Stool comprises four identical components that have been bent into U shapes. These fasten together and surround the seat, with gravity and the sitter's weight keeping them fixed.
