Vans, the iconic Californian skate brand, unveils its latest project entitled the Patchwork Denim collection. The pack draws inspiration from unique Japanese craftsmanship, specifically its patchwork and stitching techniques. Overall, three silhouettes are reworked to boast the technical denim components -- the Authentic, the Slip-Ons, and the Sk8 Hi sneakers. All throughout each shoe, there is a heavy denim-imitating canvas that is decorated with other colored denim patches.
The patches are stitched on using something called sashiko stitching and patched using boro patchworking, both invented by the Japanese. There are also suede and leather details, as well as a full-length vulcanized sole as foundation. The Patchwork Denim collection was inspired by the quilting technique typically implemented to repair clothing and increase its longevity. The entire footwear pack will be available online and at Vans' retail stores starting this month.
