Local design studio SOA Architekti designed the Park of Memories which is located in As, Czech Republic and it is resting on an elevated walkway with winding paths to guide visitors through. The renovation process by the studio takes what was once a former graveyard which was demolished in the 70s and turns it into a public park with a memorial along with repaired stone bridges and cellars.
The aim was to connect visitors with the cultural and architectural heritage of the space. Štefan Šulek founder of SOA Architekti speaks to Dezeen about the design process, stating "The project aims to recall the forgotten values of the past and guide visitors through the city's turbulent history. It engages with its historical context by sensitively incorporating the memory of the site, such as concentrating neglected graves into a new memorial."
