Dutch architectural firm MRVDV's new design for the 'Paradise City' complex, a focal point for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Seoul, looks almost like something out of a Salvador Dali painting. Comprising two buildings and a grand plaza, the concept features bizarre, warped "inverted facades" and a huge, perspective-shifted blob of gold.
Though built with the Olympics in mind, Paradise City will be the center of a new tourist district in the South Korean capital, full of shops, eateries and even a nightclub. The giant golden spot draped over the majority of one of the buildings will simply look like an avant-garde paint job from ground level, however MRVDV has designed it so that it will look like a perfect circle from directly overhead. The bird's eye view is not just for show, as one of Incheon airport's main routes will pass over Paradise City.
