The Paper Chair reminds me of dry, rocky planes and cool, cavernous caves. Organic and undulating, its surface seems like something Mother Nature would have crafted. Of course, however, only a human would create something so interestingly hypnotic with its swirling, zebra-like lines.
That human happens to be Danish designer Mathias Bengtsson. The Paper Chair is just one of his most recent creations, which was featured in The Wall Street Journal High-Tech, Avant-Garde Design and Architecture article.
The Paper Chair was, not so surprisingly, fashioned out of paper. What is impressive is the sheer amount of recycled paper used on the seat. Thousands of sheets were glued together under heat and high pressure, without any frame, joint or screws.
