A team of US Air Force auxiliary volunteers launched a high-tech paper airplane from a high-altitude balloon at an altitude of 29,432 meters, setting a new world record for paper airplane flight. It definitely beats that airplane you launched across the classroom in Grade 7 math class.
The paper airplane was launched from Kankakee in Illinois and landed over 132 km away just southwest of Rochester, Indiana. The record-breaking flight took around 2 hours and 7 minutes.
The paper airplane has a traditional paper airplane shape and is made out of paper board. 76 cm long and weighing 424 grams, the plane was fitted with GPS tracking technology, temperature sensors, a barometric pressure sensor, a flight computer, batteries, a solar panel and an HD video camera that captured some great pics during flight.
