In time for the holiday season, Google is adding a new feature to its Gmail app that lets users track packages directly within their inboxes. Over the festive season, Gmail will display a simplified view of tracking and delivery information for users' orders and shipping confirmations.
Using Gmail's settings, users can opt in to receive package tracking updates in their inbox. A user's inbox will be updated automatically with order statuses based on tracking numbers. Also, delay labels will be displayed proactively and emails will be moved to the top of the inbox.
Similar to Apple's package tracker in iOS 16, Google's system works only for orders purchased with Apple Pay from businesses that support it. Furthermore, Apple's tracker is built into the Wallet app rather than the Mail app.
