UV-Activated Package Labels

These Luminescent Labels Protect the Privacy Of Package Recipients

A team of scientists and engineers over at Dresden University in Technology have invented package labels that use high-tech display technologies to protect the privacy and personal information of package recipients.

These package labels are constructed out of a special material that contains luminescent molecules that are dark by default because the oxygen embedded in the material sucks light away from them. However, when exposed to ultraviolet right, the molecules become active and therefore visible.

The advantage offered by these package labels is that sensitive information such as bar codes and recipient addresses can be hidden out of sight, protecting the privacy of the clients of shipping companies. Moreover, the fact that these package labels can be printed for a reasonable cost of less than $2.50 per square meter makes them a viable option for shipping companies.
