It's certain that outdoor rocking chairs are nothing new, but this design looks to fuse multiple elements from various types of seating for an innovative final design form.
Created by students Harshita Murudkar, Shivaji Gulati and Mehak Philip of the MIT Institute of Design in India, the chair is a hybrid between a rocking chair and a hammock.
The solid frame of the chair allows strong rope to be weaved between the supporting beams to create a hammock-like aesthetic. The spherical aesthetic allows sitters to sit in a variety of different ways without having to conform to preconceived rules regarding furniture.
The outdoor rocking chair design is still in the prototype phase, although the design is sure to be a win if or when it's brought to the consumer product market.
