The Olympic torch was extinguished twice this morning in Paris. Protesters, in both London and now Paris are making attempts to silence the Olympic torch because of China's human rights record.
Interestingly, the police in Paris were intending to protect the torch like a, "head of state," but in this case, the protest was too overwhelming.
This video from London shows a man's attempt to snuff out the flame. As the Associated Press reported, "The biggest protests since last month's torch-lighting in Greece tarnished China's hope for a harmonious prelude to a Summer Games celebrating its rise as a global power. Instead, the flame's 85,000-mile journey from Greece to Beijing has become a stage for activists decrying China's recent crackdown on Tibetans and support for Sudan despite civilian deaths in Darfur."
The Olympic torch is intended to travel on a peaceful 85,000 mile from journey Greece to Beijing. Compared to previous Olympic Games, this torch run is supposed to be the longest yet. Perhaps this means we'll see more protests across the globe.
