BP has purchased 32 of Dan and Kevin Costner’s Ocean Therapy Solutions oil-water separators to help clean up the underwater Gulf oil gusher. The move comes after much publicity and Kevin Costner’s Congressional testimony about BP’s inadequate response to the oil leak.
The oil cleanup technology was invented at the Idaho National Lab by David Meikrantz. Costner purchased a license for Meikrantz’s oil-water separators in 1993 and has promoted it ever since, but because there were no big spills, the device didn’t get attention. Meikrantz has been a technical adviser for Costner’s companies.
