NTT Data is Foraying into Sleep Technology with Sleep Monitoring

NTT Data Corp, a prominent IT services company in Japan, is set to pioneer a novel approach to health and wellness through the hospitality sector. In collaboration with Nine Hours, a capsule hotel operator, and Fitbit, a Google-owned wearable technology brand, NTT Data is launching a capsule hotel that specializes in sleep analysis. Slated to open on the first floor of the company-owned Area Shinagawa in Tokyo by July 2024, this initiative aims to acquire, store, and analyze sleep data of consenting hotel guests.

The hotel will utilize an array of technologies including infrared cameras, sound-collecting microphones, body movement sensors, and brain wave sensors to capture comprehensive sleep data. Additionally, a sensor currently under development by NTT Laboratories, which visualizes internal body rhythms by estimating core body temperature, is expected to be trialed at the hotel.

NTT Data plans to create a sleep analysis report for each guest, offering insights into their sleep patterns and core body temperature to help them understand and optimize their individual sleep environments. The ultimate goal is to amass sleep data from 10 million people globally by 2027, thereby providing what is anticipated to be the world’s largest sleep data accumulation and analysis service. With the consent of the guests, anonymized data will be shared with manufacturers across various industries, including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and consumer goods, to aid in product development and marketing strategies.
