Fascinating Lava Lamp Facades

Nordwesthaus is a Contemporary Lighthouse for the Sailing Community

The exquisitely unpredictable and protean qualities of water are beautifully celebrated in the Nordwesthaus. The sailing clubhouse on Lake Constance in Switzerland was designed by Baumschlager Eberle to sit conveniently adjacent to the moorings, providing a much-needed indoor space and a less practical purpose.

Looking at the illuminated cubic structure at night is a real feast for the eyes. Lights inside of it make it glow gorgeous colors that reflect brilliantly on the calm surface of the water before it. There is a sensational structural dynamic between the fluid concrete walls and the perforations that take spellbinding biomorphic forms. With translucent glass cladding every face of the Nordwesthaus, the mesmerizing building comes to resemble a boxy large-scale lava lamp.
