Space-Invading Cellphones

The 41 Megapixel Nokia 808 Pureview was Sent up in the Air as a Test

Nokia put its new revolutionary 41 megapixel camera phone, the 808 PureView, to the ultimate test. And what better place to test the robustness of your gadget than Iceland in the winter time? Nokia wasn't only going to test the cell on the freezing glaciers and rough lavafields; the ultimate test was to send the camera phone to near space, up to 34 km in the air to get a picture of the Earth from above.

The quality of the camera phone is amazing as can be seen in this video from Nokia's mission to Iceland -- and space.

The phone was first unveiled on February 27th and features Carl Zeiss optics with a 1/1.2" large sensor. The PureView imaging technology delivers high image quality, lossless zoom and improved low light performance. The Nokia 808 Pureview has already been awarded for "Best Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet 2012" and "Best Imaging Innovation for 2012." It will arrive at the first shops this month.
