Mundane Cultural Object Photography

Neil Winokur's New York Photo Series is Simple and Vibrant

Taking on everyday things you would never think about for more than a second, successful photographer Neil Winokur shows us his hometown in this New York photo series.

Having had his work shown by the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art to name a few, Winokur has made it big by keeping his work simple and focusing on the most mundane and ordinary objects to portray culture.

The New York-based photographer uses starkly colored backdrops to highlight the simple objects he photographs.

"Andy Warhol said that everybody has 15 minutes of fame. I do still lifes because I think these objects should get theirs. I try to photograph objects that are archetypal, objects that have a meaning to society beyond themselves," says Winokur of his New York photo series.
