Czech design studio RDTH Architekti designs the New House with Old Mill, which was once an old mill and farm in Slovakia. It has been transformed into a modern family home defined by its range of timber structures that are a celebration of what it once was -- sheds and chicken coops.
The home is by a small stream for a tranquil feeling and rests on the former mill with various agricultural buildings. It is formed in a V-shape plan with a garden in the middle. Co-founder of RDTH, René Dlesk speaks to Dezeen about the design notion, stating "We created a concept with certain a volumetric and material nostalgia of the given site and original building. We wanted to somehow transform it with a more contemporary, formal vocabulary, yet still understandable by those that are more familiar with the old language."
