The Nannup Holiday House in Australia Embraces Nature’s Gifts

The Nannup Holiday House, designed by Iredale Pedersen Hook Architects, is a house that is designed to embrace nature while staving off the hazards and inconveniences that nature can pose. The house is raised on stilts, making it inaccessible to flood hazards, wild pigs and venomous snakes.

The single-storey home uses Jarrah (a common Australian eucalyptus) wood, Western Australian blackbutt hardwood and timber, materials that help the rugged-looking structure avoid looking out of place in its surroundings in rural Nannup, Australia. It features an unusual zig-zag design that can be accessed via steel ramps.

The Nannup Holiday House utilizes a range of green technologies, including a rainwater catchment system on the roof and a gray water recycling system that recycles water for use in the garden. Solar panels on the roof capture enough energy to meet all electrical requirements.
