Toronto label Mr. Saturday has unveiled the first look at its ‘Sex & Politics: Shadow Play At Le Chat Noir’ Spring/Summer 2023 collection. First unveiled at Paris Fashion Week, the collection builds upon ideas of iconic historical moments while also using Le Chair Noir, Cabaret Voltaire, and more as inspiration. These places were typically homes for the LGBTQ+ community, providing freedom and solitude for individuals who could not find it elsewhere.
The collection comprises oversized, baggy silhouettes that fall into both womenswear and menswear categories. Sheer bow-adorned shirts, relaxed pants, and pleated skirts are paired with ‘sex & politics’-branded long sleeve shirts, knitted cat balaclavas, and turtleneck dresses. The garments experiment with shadowplay, using see-through materials to comment on the relationship between the collection’s two significant topics: sex and politics.
