Will Mower, a graphic artist, has designed BlockFace, a modular typography printing kit that simplifies the process of constructing letterforms and creating typographic prints. BlockFace offers a hands-on approach to typography and printmaking, breaking away from the digital realm. Will, an artist and printmaker, developed BlockFace as a means to remove creative barriers through modular systems. He draws inspiration from typography, architecture, and signage to convey ideas through a graphic language.
The BlockFace kit, originally called Alpha-Set, was first introduced in 2018 and has since evolved to provide greater flexibility and options for typeface design. To meet growing demand, Will collaborated with the Open Press Project, known for making printmaking accessible. Together, they created the latest BlockFace kit, featuring 24 rubber stamps with 3D printed grips and cushioning foam, accompanied by a manual for constructing various letterform styles.
The BlockFace kit is available through a Kickstarter campaign, and it's also open-source, allowing anyone with access to a 3D printer or laser-cutting machine to create their own.
