Based on the gestalt principles, the Modular Shelves by Reinier de Jong, an industrial designer based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, is a bit of an improvement on a past design. Working off of the framework for the REK Bookcase, it addresses the problem that it required a lot of space to install it. Although this storage unit can also take up a lot of room, it is meant to be built over time so that people create a custom design that fits their space and lifestyle best.
Made up of simple, singular rectangle units, the Modular Shelves by Reinier de Jong are fitted together via dowels. The overall design was inspired by the gestalt principles.
