Vibrant Sculptural Education Centers

Supernormal Reimagines the Aesthetics of the Modern Daycare

The aesthetic of the modern daycare and education center is reimagined by Somerville-based multidisciplinary design firm Supernormal. The project is commissioned by SolBe Learning Center which is "a nursery and preschool for children aged six months to five years." The institution opened earlier in 2019 and is located in a strip mall in Chestnut Hill.

Supernormal facilitates an incredibly playful ambiance as the firm utilizes a vibrant color palette and an abundance of detailed prints to engage children and bring about a nurturing learning environment. The layout distribution of the modern daycare center is also quite unconventional. Following the design brief, the firm "paired each classroom, called a 'Dwelling,' with an open space, called a 'Yard.'" This distribution makes for a well-balanced experience.
