The way people get around town in the year 2030 could be radically different if Ajinkya Yadav's MOBI concept car ever becomes a reality. MOBI is a single-seat pod car that is designed to have more in common with a cellphone than a car.
MOBI is designed to be leased on a contractual basis just like cellphone service. Prospective users would go to a MOBI dealership and negotiate a contract setting the length of their lease and the distance they can drive per month. MOBI users would then be given a SIM card that acts as a key to each car.
The MOBI concept car would have a unique three-wheeled design that puts two wheels in the front and one in the back. The rear wheel would be directly attached to the seat and would extend or contract depending on how the drive adjusts their seat. While I can't see anybody in the year 2011 or 2012 wanting to rent a pod car on a monthly basis, the same can't be said for folks in the year 2030. You can check out the MOBI concept car here.
