Using landscapes of national parks from old National Geographic photographs in her mixed media art portraits, San Francisco-based artist Lindsay Stripling has created a stunning series that is novel in both idea and form.
The artist reinterprets old photographs in her watercolor pieces, but keeps the face blank from features -- "I was leaving faces blank to speak to a lack of identity or loss of memory when I realized that the blank spaces can serve as an entry point into a new place," she says about her mixed media art portraits.
Stripling then adds the vintage National Geographic photographs where the blank faces are. "Landscapes are permanent and changing all at once and public parks and spaces are something we hold close to our hearts," says Stripling.
