Proactive WiFi Systems

This MIT WiFi System Actively Locates and Finds Users

A group of scientists and engineers working out of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory over at MIT have developed an exceptionally high-tech single access WiFi system that is capable of accurately, precisely and rapidly locating users without the use of any extra sensors.

Dubbed Chronos, this WiFi system is thought to be as much as 20 times as accurate as conventional WiFi localization methods. It is capable of distinguishing between people hanging out inside a store or cafe to those outside as much as 97 percent of the time, making it accurate down to a tenth of a meter.

Ultimately, this WiFi system points towards a future where WiFi networks find users and not vice-versa, improving access for all.
