Original video game concepts are hard to come by, but Minit, a new indie game from developers Jan Willem Nijman and Kitty Calis, offers a completely novel experience. As its name hints, the game's central mechanic revolves around one minute increments, with the main character automatically dying each time the game clock reaches 60 seconds.
Minit is a minimalist, pixelated adventure that follows a relatively formless main character as it explores its town, fights enemies, and solves puzzles (all under the control of the player.) However, every 60 seconds, this hero automatically dies and gets sent back to its home to begin again. That might sound frustrating, but the trick to the game is that the main character keeps hold of any items or powers that it acquired in all of its previous lives. These tools in turn allow the player to access new puzzles and advance through the game every 60 seconds.
