The Mini IR Theremin Makes Music by a Simple Wave of the Hand

Fans of the spooky sounds of the theremin may want to indulge in a DIY project to make the Mini IR Theremin.

For those who have never heard of a theremin, it's a very early electronic instrument that's controlled by the movements of your hand. Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin used it in the band's famous song Whole Lotta Love and it's commonly used to make creepy sounds in horror movies. The Mini IR Theremin updates it a little bit by using IR sensors that detects the "distance between the Theremin and a light reflecting obstacle," which translates the information to a musical pitch according to DVice. It does sound more like a synthesizer, but it looks fun to play with and perhaps you can try to make it sound like the real thing.
