Contrasting Bed-Side Stands

Metropolis Bedside Tables Embody the Polarities of Day and Night

It was clever of the designer of the Metropolis Bedside Tables to consider a practical and poetic treatment to the creation of bedroom furnishings. This space is one in which the average person falls asleep in the dark of night and wakes up to the morning sunrise (latitude, season and occupation dependent), giving the experience of that room a duality.

Brian Khouw made a pair of night stands -- one for each side of your bed -- that take similar compositions. They both have four wooden legs, a concrete compartment and a drawer. What is different about the Metropolis Bedside Tables is that the daytime one has pale natural supports and a soft cream-colored facade. The evening piece has black-painted legs and an ebony-tinted textural front. They represent opposite but overlapping realms.
