Afsaneh Rabiei, an Iran born, US based designer has created an ultra-light, yet incredibly tough material that could be truly revolutionary. Not only is this advanced material another incredible achievement from an inventor from Iran, but it is noteworthy that the inventor is a woman.
The metal foam could soon play a crucial role in saving energy, and some say it may even save lives. Iran Daily says it could be used on airplanes, cars, armor and biomedical devices.
"Rabiei sees plenty of uses for her invention, including in airplanes, boats and structures that need impact protection while maintaining low weight" Iran Daily says. "It’s this high strength-to-density ratio--defining a material that’s both strong and light--that makes Rabiei’s foam unique."
While it’s not the first metal foam, it does look like it is the most highly advanced and the most applicable to daily life. It is five times stronger and can absorb about seven times more impact than existing foams.
