The final version of the Mercedes SLR McLaren Speedster has been spotted in the wild. In an effort to minimize its weight, the peculiar carbon-fibre SLR model will come with no windscreen or roof. These sacrifices help the extreme SLR model weigh about 200kg less than the traditional SLR coupé and roadster.
The Mercedes SLR McLaren Speedster only features a tiny pair of aeroscreens for the driver and passenger, so wearing a professional helmet would be necessary.
Reportedly, only 75 cars would be made of the unorthodox design, with a projected price of about €750,000, making this windscreen-less SLR the most expensive version ever produced.
The design is reportedly inspired by Rudolf Uhlenhaut's iconic 1955 300 SL, which is known as the 'Silver Arrow'. Check the gallery below for pictures of the new model and its engine, and two pictures of the Silver Arrow.
