Dumbbell-Like Seating

The Meme Stool by Streng Looks Heavy but is Lightweight

Upon first glance, the Meme Stool could easily be mistaken for a set of dumbbells. The steel surface and mirrored ends, which bulge out from a slim midsection like an hourglass, all lend itself to such a weighty aesthetic. Nevertheless, the Meme Stool is no dumbbell. Instead, it is a sleek and stylish seat that any contemporary soul would want to get their hands on.

Designed by Streng, a New York- and Chicago-based studio founded by brothers Daniel and Chris Streng, the Meme Stool gives the illusion of heaviness, but in reality it is very lightweight. Crafted out of thin aluminum sheets, which were handmade using a metal-turning process, the Meme Stool has interlocking top and bottom components. They can be stacked or grouped for sculptural purposes if that is desired.
