The crowd at the Gooding & Co. auction must have been shocked when the McLaren X-1 was unveiled. This bespoke supercar has a look unlike any other McLaren ever made. The one-off X-1 was designed for a McLaren customer who wanted a ride all his own.
The McLaren X-1 is based off of the recently released MP4-12C. The body may be different, but this supercar is still capable of zero to 60 in 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 207 mph thanks to its twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine. The engine is undeniably beastly, but it's the X-1's exterior that's designed to draw attention. Designers Hong Yeo and Frank Stephenson reportedly used everything from classic cars to an eggplant as inspiration when designing the McLaren X-1. No word on the price the buyer paid, but it was likely slightly more than an arm and a leg.
