The Matic Robot Vacuum Cleaner Navigates Without Transmitting Data

The Matic robot vacuum cleaner is a privacy-focused appliance for the home developed by former Google engineers Mehul Nariyawala and Navneet Dalal that prioritizes ease of use as well as data safety.

The robotic vacuum cleaner is equipped with LiDAR, ultrasonic and bumper sensors that enable it to navigate through a space while avoiding common household objects, humans and pets. The unit uses five RGB optical cameras connected to artificial intelligence (AI) neural networks to actually see the home, but doesn't upload data to the cloud.

The Matic robot vacuum cleaner is rated to operate at 61dB to give it an ultra-quiet profile, and boasts a one-liter HEPA bag for waste, and a 600ml water tank for mopping.
