A new exhibition at Kyoto's Museum EKI titled ''Sukita: Rare & Unseen’ celebrates the career of Japanese photographer Masayoshi Sukita, highlighting his ongoing collaborations with rockstar David Bowie. The exhibition will feature several unpublished and unseen pieces that were first captured while Bowie was in Kyoto, Japan.
Sukita and Bowie's working relationship spanned over 40 years, with the two men first meeting in 1972. Bowie claimed that Sukita had a unique ability to make photoshoots "so relaxed and painless," which is likely the reason he became Bowie's go-to photographer.
Many of the never-before-seen photographs in the 'Sukita: Rare & Unseen' exhibition show Bowie dressed in garments created by influential Japanese fashion designer Kansai Yamamoto. This new and exciting exhibition coincides with the international launch of a full-scale Sukita retrospective titled 'Sukita: Eternity'.
