Czech design student Maria Nina Vaclavek recently created these one-of-a-kind rectangular cube shoes for a university project. The shoes combine geometric shapes with the natural curvature of high heels.
These high heels, known as the 'Rectangle,' pay tribute to the very first pair of shoes that were made using primitive leather. Rather than these heels having a traditional triangular design, Vaclavek used a combination of colors, textiles and embossing techniques to make these shoes look cubic. Over the top of the front of the foot is a hard piece of leather that, combined with the triangular heel, makes the shoe look like a rectangle. The use of a cream color for the shoe and a black for the sole further creates this optical illusion that the shoe is in fact a square.
