Hewlett Packard thinks that dairy farmers and cattle ranchers may be natural partners for energy-consuming in high-tech companies by way of manure-fueled data centers.
The plan to locate server farms near manure-producing dairy farms in order to take advantage of methane generated by cattle was presented at the American Society of Mechanical Engineers International Conference on Energy Sustainability in Phoenix Arizona this month. Manure-fueled data centers could use methane from manure as fuel and save on energy cost and prevent damage to the environment.
