You might be used to seeing these sorts of sculpted motifs as architectural embellishments both inside and outside of Indian structures, but Mandala by Steffi Min is a project that strives to celebrate these ornate objects in ways that infiltrate life in unexpected ways.
The designer describes why such handmade tiles and bricks may go undervalued and under-appreciated, but instead of carving them from solid gold, she turns to more unusual everyday applications for such ornamentation usually reserved for ceramic and stone. The result of her creative exploration gives light to a collection of soft-looking items from wall-mounted planters and pendant lamps to chocolate bars. As far as the first two are concerned, I'd love to incorporate Mandala by Steffi Min into my home, but I don't think I could stand to eat such an elaborately engraved treat.
