Hybrid Disaster-Protecting Chairs

The Mamoris Earthquake Helmet Chair Doubles as a Sheild

As society continues to face more natural disasters in wake of climate change, the Mamoris Earthquake Helmet Chair functions as a hybrid piece of furniture that also protects users in case of an earthquake or other natural disaster. The chair was designed by Kota Nezu of Znug Design and its name – Mamoris – comes from the Japanese words for "protect" (mamoru) and "chair" (is).

The chair boasts a protective helmet that's been integrated into the back and bottom of the chair. In case of emergencies, the user can press the dial to allow the seat to detach from the chair and quickly don the element when and if a natural or man-made disaster strikes.
