Magic Carpet Couches

This Japanese Couch Design Looks Like a Floating Magic Carpet

A Japanese designer has conceived a design for a magic carpet couch -- no this couch doesn't fly, but it does look like a floating rug. While flying on a magic carpet will continue to remain a distant dream for all those of us who watched Aladdin as kids, we can at least hope to one day sleep on a surface that resembles a magic carpet in appearance.

The couch's wave-like form is designed to be equally comfortable whether one intends to sit around and lounge or enjoy a restful slumber.

In coming up with the design, the designers considered a variety of different forms and sizes, using paper models to ponder what their final creation might look and feel like.

The design was shortlisted for the LEXUS design award, a competition with the theme of 'curiosity'. The couch's designer says that his aim was "to create an embodiment of ‘curiosity,’ allowing one to explore different seating positions, tingling the investigative spirit."
