The LowLine underground park is a proposed project for the city of New York. Inspired by the High Line initiative, which focused on elevated parks in unused city infrastructures, this concept takes a gander at spaces that reside below.
Designed by Dan Barasch and former NASA satellite engineer James Ramsey, the LowLine underground park would be built along the neglected 13-acre former subway stop on Delancey Street, built in 1903 in New York’s Lower East Side. Using fiber optic cables to fill the subterranean space with natural light and living plants, the LowLine underground park would recapture the past in a semi-futuristic way.
The LowLine underground park is currently on Kickstarter. The founders hope to raise $100,000 to fund the project.
