In honor of the fast-approaching 2012 London Olympic Games, David Cerny created the London Booster. Czech-based artist David Cerny redesigned a traditional London double-decker into an intricate mechanical sculpture capable of doing push-ups.
Installed outside the Czech Olympic House in Islington, one of London's many neighborhoods, this sculpture is a quirky tribute to the iconic Olympic Games and the athletes that train tirelessly to get there.
After purchasing a 1957 transit bus, Cerny attached two mechanical arms, an electrically powered engine and a boatload of tools to help with the sculpture's suspension. With the help of the mechanical arms, the London Booster is currently able to lift the buses grand total weight of 6-tonnes. It is Cerny's hope that his sculptural bus creation will become the unofficial mascot of the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Just like all the athletes partaking in the Olympic games, this big red bus is also preparing for this iconic event, no doubt with eyes all over the world watching.
