'Here' is a new location sharing app from Japanese company Line.
Line already has a suite of social messaging apps available, with more than 200 million active users in over 200 countries, mostly concentrated in Asia. Its recently launched location sharing app is a stand-alone application -- so newcomers don't need to have any other Line apps to use the new service.
The location sharing app will allow users to view the geographical location of any of their contacts or groups. This could serve a few purposes. In the case of an upcoming social plan, all members of the party could view the location of other invitees -- letting everyone arrange to arrive at exactly the same time. On a cold night, this could mean standing outside for 10 minutes less, and it will eliminate all of the back-and-forth texting that usually goes into getting a whole group somewhere for a somewhat similar time. Parents can also use the location sharing app to track kids walking home from school or going to friends' houses.
There's a lot of utility for Line's location sharing app, and it's a bold move into a largely untapped domain for the Asian messaging company.
