Record-Breaking Hard Drives

The Newest 'Little Big Disk' by LaCie is Fast as a Flash

Digital storage device maker LaCie released the latest version of its Little Big Disk external hard drive; the Little Big Disk Thunderbolt 2 is claimed to be the fastest external drive on the market.

The Little Big Disk boasts 1 terabyte of storage. Files stored on the drive can be opened at speeds of up to 1,375 megabytes per second, while files can be saved onto the drive at 1,180 megabytes per second.

Up to five Little Big Disks can be daisy-chained (linked together); connecting two of them to the new Mac Pro resulsts in transfer speeds of up to 2,600 megabytes per second.

The Little Big Disk's interior includes two heat-sink plates for high cooling efficiency and low dependence on the cooling fan; this makes the drive function at monstrous speeds while being whisper-quiet at the same time.

Despite these impressive features, the drive is fairly portable and weighs just 1.4 pounds, although it does require a power outlet.

The Little Big Disk Thunderbolt 2 starts at $1,299.99.
